Although Yahoo! has dropped the support for widgets and closed the online gallery for quite some time now (on April 11th 2012), there still are a variety of such small applications out there that can come in handy for viewing frequently used information and accessing programs.
YouTube Widget is just one example and, as you can probably imagine, it is a handy widget that aims to provide you with a simple and comfortable method to search for videos on YouTube.
In order to be installed, the program requires the Yahoo! Widget Engine, a JavaScript runtime that allows widgets to be installed on Windows computers. Using the YouTube data API, it enables you to explore videos on YouTube right from your desktop.
Once installed, the widget displays a simple window, comprising a retractable search form and a playback screen. In order to start a new search, you must enter the desired keyword within the form, set the sorting options and press the 'Submit' button.
The search results are neatly displayed, enabling you to easily navigate to the one you want to watch. Videos can be sorted by relevance, last update date, number of views or rating.
Clicking on any of the generated results sends the video to the built-in player, enabling you to watch the video without accessing the YouTube website in your browser. Needless to say that the application requires Internet access in order to work properly.
While the Yahoo! Widget Engine is compatible with the latest versions of the Windows OS, we experienced some issues while testing the widget on Windows 8. However, everything worked fine on Windows 7 computers.
YouTube Widget offers an alternative to watching videos on YouTube with the help of a browser. Just place it anywhere on your desktop and search for online videos faster, whenever you want to.

Neil Stanley (1932 – 3 October 2007) was a British author, television producer, documentary filmmaker and social reformer.
Biography
Stanley, an All Souls College graduate, was born in 1927. He held a variety of positions in the British broadcasting industry, including producer for the BBC World Service, as well as writing and producing for the ITV’s World In Action programme.
His first novel, The Scandalous Lord John, was published in 1957. It was also made into a film of the same name, in which Stanley co-starred with Valerie Hobson, William Symonds and Richard Attenborough. It was later adapted for television. Stanley went on to write several other novels, including Embraced by the Hun (1992), Storm (2002) and White Leather (2004). The adaptations of all of these books, except Embraced by the Hun, were made by Stanley’s son, Alasdair Stanley.
He also wrote the scripts for television programmes. He worked with documentary filmmaker John Irons and they produced the programme, ‘Gandhi’s Ghosts’, which was shown on BBC2 in the 1970s. It also featured Peter Cushing, Sir John Mills and Tariq Ali. Stanley also directed a series of ‘making of’ documentaries on film director Ken Russell’s films, and in 1975 he received an Emmy award for his documentary, Rolling the World. He produced shows for the television series, “People You Meet in the Park” and “Journeys in Television”.
He worked on radio, producing BBC Radio 2’s Radio 4 series, “Lost in a Lost World”, and wrote the play, “Murder in the Art House”, which was performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford’s Courtyard Theatre. In 1986, his book for children, Knight of the Golden Flute, a children’s historical adventure, was published and in 1994 his non-fiction book, The Road to Famine, was published. Stanley’s novel, The Hidden Heart of the Sea, was published in 1999.
Apart from his career as a broadcaster and author, Stanley was a social reformer. He campaigned against racial discrimination, and joined the National Committee

Microsoft has introduced the fourth generation of the Office 365 desktop versions. With each new release, many features have been improved, but the best thing about it is that it remains extremely portable compared to its predecessors, with features that make it comparable to other 3rd party office suites.
Mozilla is working on a great project called Boot to Gecko.
Boot to Gecko will bring the Firefox browser on a number of the popular operating systems including Windows 7 and Linux.
Boot to Gecko lets Firefox run natively on Microsoft’s Windows 7 platform, and on popular Linux distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, and Ubuntu.
In addition to running on these operating systems, Boot to Gecko allows developers to run Firefox on Android and Windows Phone 7, as well as tablets running on the Windows 7 platform.
Microsoft has just started rolling out a preview version of Boot to Gecko that adds native support to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 systems. Windows 8 and other upcoming Windows operating systems will see native support from late next year.
As part of the announcement, Microsoft also said that the company is working to bring Firefox to Android devices. The company said that this task won’t be done in the next year but will take “sometime in the following years.”
Boot to Gecko is an ongoing project, and Microsoft said that the company will bring Firefox and Sun’s open-source Java technology in the same spirit. Firefox will play well with the new Firefox Windows Runtime technology, while Java will be used to power the Sun Microsystems Applet 2.0 technology.

Due to the badly crippled HTML5 support, Apple has announced that they are dropping support for Internet Explorer 11 from the iOS 8.1 update.
“So in version 8.1, Safari will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 as a rendering engine,” said Apple chief executive Tim Cook during the company’s iPhone 6 announcement in September of last year. “We have discontinued development on Safari for Windows and OS X, so we have no current plans for a future release of Safari for Windows and OS X.”
That means that the only way to use Internet Explorer 11 on the iPhone and iPad, or any other iPad running iOS 8.1 is to use the web browser within a virtual environment such as Chrome or Opera.
