besides this, the structure of the novel changes significantly. [several of the] assistants become cotranslated into russian, which implies that the novel is now a collaboration between sadoveanu and his russian editor. the story is told in fragmentary sections, opening with a view of the reader who leaves behind his urban life for a visit to the countryside, and closing in the place where the boy is going to die with the story of the boy’s parents. both these factors enable the book to be read as a kind of autobiography, and the narrator of mireasa to be regarded as a self-critical person.
