i have watched most of the pbs programs and would like to comment on “hitler’s rise to power.” as a german i would like to give the show a positive review. my mother is german and the show is very accurate in portraying the treatment of the jews by hitler and the nazi party. i believe the program should be shown in german and english in the schools for our children to see the evils of nazi germany and learn from it. after all, we are talking about children and the oldest living american who lives in germany could testify to the success and unsuccess of the american education system. since it is a historical fact that most americans think that hitler was a bad man, the educational institutions have no one to blame but themselves.

i went to the junior high school when i was a child in germany. the germans taught us many lessons about how not to be. we learned about the terrible atrocities that the germans did in world war 1 and 2. we were taught that the germans were bad people and the americans and british were good people. we learned that it was the german’s who started the war and that hitler was a bad man. we were taught to hate the germans and the americans. the students were taught to be germans and hate americans. there was no teaching about how to be an american. in a similar way, many young children in our public schools are being taught to hate the president of the united states.

you pbs people had better remember that when you get a check from the nc taxpayer, you are supposed to spend it all right here in nc. you are not supposed to buy your own island and put your flag up there. if the money is being spent in nc, it is my right as a taxpayer to know where it is going. you are building a big propaganda machine to teach the children that the only right way to do things is to follow the path of the ‘left’ and that conservative politicians are evil. the children are being taught that the evil folks in washington and at pbs are fighting the good fight against the evil ‘far right’ that wants to take away the rights of decent americans. is that really what you want to teach our children? how can you justify it?
