oh yes, and theres the obligatory car chase and fist fight, too. each one as exciting and well choreographed as the last, and as much fun to watch as the first time around. its all about keeping the action going, which statham does with a convincing effort. but hes not entirely convincing as the more complex character whose morals are often in conflict with his own best interests.
who knows, if statham had been able to have some fun with the role, maybe hes been able to have some fun with himself, too. but this one, in spite of all the high-octane action and stunt work that gets him around the city and through the river, is ultimately weighed down by stathams usual persona, which goes from grumpy to hopeless and back again with little notice.
it doesnt make for much of a sequel, even if you have already seen the first three films, and even if you have the patience to watch them again for a second time. its a pity, because the first three films are among the most entertaining series of action-packed car chases in recent memory, and well worth watching again, at least.
i have been crazy about jason statham ever since the first hard boiled movie. my first contact with the actor was during the second one, when he was a guest on talking nonsense, a british television show. he was very entertaining there, and gave a very funny interview.
as soon as the film began, i knew i would not be disappointed. the acting was very good and, in fact, much better than the first transporter film. the film is intelligent, well-scripted, and well-acted.
director camille delamarre (brick mansions) and his collaborators have devised a few nifty sequences, including a jackie chan-style fight scene in which frank uses an array of file cabinet drawers to dispatch his opponents, and a cars flying leap into an airport terminal through which it proceeds to wreak vehicular havoc. but unlike the similarly high-octane stunts in mission: impossible rogue nation, most of the ones rendered here are so cartoonish and divorced from reality that they induce more laughs than gasps.
