cpucores is a simple and easy to use benchmarking software that will allow you to stress test your system and how much your hardware is capable of. with 3 simple steps, you will be able to create a benchmark that is unique to your machine. this is achieved by making sure that you start with the most basic components.
the intel serial console appears as a virtual serial port that provides access to the intel serial interface. it is compatible with the standard microsoft hyperterminal emulator. the virtual serial port can be used to manipulate the hardware and bios of the host machine, for example to perform direct access to pci devices. this allows malicious users to read arbitrary data from the system memory, and to modify operating system parameters, including the windows boot sequence. in a non-virtual environment, access can be obtained by attaching to the system console.
as mentioned earlier, skylake cpus were the first to use dci. some of the other changes include:
- sitting idle, core parking control can be disabled without hardware modifications. core parking control is also no longer tied to the processor’s performance state.
- on the whole, dci is a good thing. mobile devices are a lot more portable than they used to be, and the dci between the main logic and the southbridge helps with that. dci isn’t perfect though, as the data path is only between the main processor, cpu, gpu, and soc. if your cpu is in a box, or some other physical case, or a wall, then the data path from the cpu to the gpu is still connected to the northbridge.
cpus were common in the 1970s, but it wasn’t until the mid-1980s that desktop systems became commercially viable. the conventional wisdom was that pcs would sell like hotcakes and that all computer consumers needed was an intel-compatible processor (i.e. basic [3]). unfortunately, it wasn’t long before pc hardware manufacturers started designing and manufacturing systems that were fully compatible with the cpu. anyone ever wonder why the internals of an ibm pc look so much different from an ibm pc? this was done for competition (isa’s). ibm was already making minicomputers and it wasn’t long before the isa’s started appearing in personal computers.
although a lot of things have changed, the architecture of pcs and psus remain the same. the parts of a psu look roughly the same. the cathode ray tubes will be treated differently. and all parts will take up a certain amount of space. this is all fine as long as a manufacturer doesn’t try to make a cooler with a large thermal capacity that is set to a higher temperature. this is hard to do, but various psus have large amounts of capacitance which is basically another material that can conduct heat. the result is heat sinks that have a much greater thermal capacity than the actual aluminum.
notice in the screen shot below that the selected screen is on the left and the other on the right. the reason for this is that the left half of the screen is blanked for the gba rom, which is only being displayed on the right hand side. most of the game sees a black screen with the mirrored background of the cart. and because this is a hacked console, it can be removed without any adverse effects. although there is no documentation of this exploit, it’s likely that the official rom should be viewed on the ds virtual console (if such a thing exists) as it’s still blacked out, the same way rom hacks are displayed on homebrew websites.
