In a recent interview to the Film Companion of Mumbai Mirror, Ravi Chopra mentioned how he actually wanted to make it as an OTT project and he approached Amazon. The problem was that Amazon kept insisting on a minimum of 120 minutes, which completely frustrated him. It was only after quite a bit of effort that they agreed to distribute the videos on their own platforms. But when Rahul Dholakia approached them for support to make the whole serials available on YouTube and other platforms, Amazon opted out of it stating that it is a legal issue.
The show, which was adapted from the Hindu Epic, was based on the tales of Krishna and Rama of Mahabharat. It was also a thrilling ride for the fans who got to know the characters through close shots. In an interview to Rediff , Ravi Chopra had mentioned that he has turned around and started working again after ages. Recently, He was contacted by a YouTube channel who asked to upload all the episodes of the series.
The first episode released is titled ‘Satya Putesh Parikrama’ (Truth is a river flowing). The epic drama is based on the Mahabharata of Balarama of the Pandavas , which contains the story of how Karna and Pandava’s uncle Bhima kills Kunti’s son Karna in the ten-day period after Draupadi was abducted by the Pandava brothers.
The epic will air a special run in Bengali on the Star Jalsha Network, in tandem with the release of over 30 episodes on the Doordarshan-owned Gold channel. The films will be aired on the DD Saraswati channel on a rotating basis.
“ Mahabharat was an adaptation of the epics that were already well known, whereas Ramayan was based on the most popular mythology. We made the decision to go ahead with Mahabharat in the hope that we can introduce new people to the mythological elements in India’s popular culture,” says a high executive at Pen Studios. “Today, mythology is in the DNA of India. Anybody can relate to “Ram-Sita”, “Lakshmana-Damodar”. By adapting the mythological elements of Mahabharat, we were able to reach out to a wide audience and create a connection between India and the rest of the world.”
It was one of the most popular weekly serial on the telly. It aired for about four years, and was replayed for eight years. It set the base for the success of a number of other TV serials. The making of this TV serial started in 1966 and first aired on 29th June 1967 on India’s first private television channel Times Television. The serial is based on the epic of the same name, it follows the story of the eldest son of the Pandavas Lord Krishna and his fight for justice in the aftermath of the Kurukshetra war. The lead actor is Surjan Bhagat, the title role of Draupadi was played by Suchitra Krishnamoorthy. Mahabharat ran from 1966 to 1972. It has been remade in many languages, including Telugu, Tamil, and Indonesian. The Hindi version, dubbed as Mahabharat, ran from 1988 to 1990, and was later remade in Kannada by Balaji Telefilms. The first ever teleserial in telugu was Mahabharat. The story is set in the Eastern side of India (as the footings of the four oceans) and takes place during four different time periods, encompassing the Vedic period (before 1200 BCE) to the legendary period (6th century CE).The Mahabharata War or Kurukshetra War spans an interminable period and recounts the war between Kauravas and Pandavas. It is the longest epic in the world. According to the principle of Jain cosmology, the Mahabharata war follows a pattern of cosmic law as predestined by karma. It was written in Sanskrit, but according to the Jain religion has been passed down in text forms of Sanskrit, Tamil, Hindi and other languages in the Indian subcontinent, South East Asia, and Pakistan.
