it could not get the wifi going on my 1015 and i couldn’t find any instructions for the impatient (so i did the registry fix). since then, it has worked fine. as for the webcam i did a lot of research and it seems that there are already drivers for it included with most oss, and this one works fine as well. finaly, in some tests i have done, you can watch netflix streaming using a bluetooth connected tv instead of a blu-ray remote control, so this is kinda like if you could have your laptop remote control your tv. you’ll need a blu-ray player to have it working though, but if you have one, this is indeed quite practical.
i bought this asus because i run linux on my desktop and never had issues with it, so i have no reason to choose or not to choose linux for this netbook. it has gone smoothly with archlinux. what i like about arch is that you can easily switch between packages using synaptic or apt. in comparison, most linux distros have broken wifi support, broken webcam support, and broken sound playback/recording.

i also had the problem with my wifi. i just downgraded to the command line based b43-fwcutter and the broadcom sta driver and now my wlan n network works fine. in my wlan n network it was showing me a warning that i was using a wep key when i wasn’t. it showed me the wep key in the terminal when i was asked for it. i just took the decrypted hex code and entered it into the network manager. i’m not sure if i’m doing it right or if you need to enter the hex code in the network manager and type it in the terminal.. i dont remember if i used the ndisgtk driver. if you’re not familiar with wifi security keys or wep keys i wouldnt try to use them. i havent gotten an update on the other drivers. if you have more questions about the commands or the drivers let me know.
check your motherboard manual (or help from a friend or the motherboard manufacturer if you have one) for a list of common hotkeys. some are limited to only a few models of laptops, so know that before you try them. the most important one to check is the function f2. it can be labelled with an airplane symbol, and is used to turn off and turn on the wifi and bluetooth radios.
some laptops with an f2 hotkey actually have 2 or more, one for bluetooth and one for wireless. for example i had a dell inspiron 1520 which had both of those and a third (to turn on the webcam). the asus eee pc 1015 has a bluetooth and wifi hotkey.
there are no physical f keys on the asus eee pc 1015, but you can get some of them to work anyway. depending on your motherboard, there could be any combination of hotkeys on your keyboard, including f4, f5, f6 etc. or some other combinations, so try them!
