For decades NOW, the public has been able to buy wind and solar “power” from windfarms. Cables come from the ‘nerds’ with these things, supply them to rural customers of the’small business’ class. The customers connect the windfarm to their homes or stores and get the power. Essentially, they have their own little windmills. Companies like ‘Enercon’ supply the windturbines, often re-engineered to provide electricity. They have their own series of ‘not-bad’ patents that won’t work unless you are connected to the grid.
Here’s another: The mainlanes reach the surface on it’s own. You get the power straight from the surface to your home-run cables. The voltage is rail. Well, the ‘air’ has to be stepped up, so you get a set of transformers from the voltage to your line voltage. Not quite as clean, but works for small farmers.
The power company–which is not linked to most of the rural power where the farms are–remains under an umbrella of convenience and service.
At least one of the companies sells *junk* that will go with a 2nd-hand refrigerator. A pain in the ass!
