im only going to say this one time, dont click on the link if youre looking for a good fight. theres already a myriad of good fighting games out there.this is a good fighting game. im not going to lie to you. its not perfect, but it is solid. so, what exactly is this game about? well, theres the story, of course. you play as a rookie ninja whose father is killed by an evil criminal organization. you must rise through the ranks of the ninja clan, gain skills, and battle to save the world. sounds pretty basic so far, but samurai shodown adds a nice twist. the combo system is your main attacking tool, and theres a lot of crazy stuff you can do with it, like parrying and blocking. you can block a few attacks and perform either a strong hit or a counterattack. you can also block a move, attack and block, and then counterattack after you do it. basically, you can perform a great combo chain if youre timing it right. in addition, you can use rage arts, which are more powerful attacks that kick off a combo. samurai shodown is a fun fighting game that doesnt require much effort from the player. this is a good game for beginners and novices to the fighting game genre. the controls and game mechanics are easy to grasp.

what the game sounds like: the voice acting and sound effects of samurai shodown edge of destiny are identical to the 2d games. in terms of music, the game has none of its own. while it is composed of many of the same musical pieces as the previous games, its music is actually not composed by any of the original composers. rather, a new musical team created their own track for the game, and the composers of samurai shodown 2005/06/07/08 simply did not release any music for the game. this isnt uncommon for snk games, where its just not as common for older games to have new music, though they have come to do this with more and more of their games.
what we say: the control scheme is completely different from that in previous 2d samurai shodown games–many characters’ signature attacks are performed with a combination of single joystick touches plus a button press, rather than the 2d series’ more-conventional quarter-circle and half-circle joystick motions. it’s definitely not going to be another 2d samurai shodown game, and if you come in expecting it to be, you may be disappointed. you’ll be able to see for yourself when the game ships this winter.
when i first played samurai shodown at an arcade, i expected it to be a 2d fighter like all the other 2d fighters from snk, which i would have been fine with. i was pleasantly surprised to find that the game actually has a much more varied and interesting combat system. the game is a remarkably well designed fighter, with a ton of options and strategy to deal with almost every situation. the matches are extremely balanced and the fight button combinations are easy to learn, but there are dozens of different attacks and techniques to master, so it is a challenge to master and to feel successful.
