i think that the list is great and very helpful in choosing pieces. it would be interesting to see a list of piano concertos, since it seems like it would be hard to make a list of piano music and include all of the classics (i.e., bach, beethoven, chopin, schumann, debussy, etc.).
i have just started reading through this excellent list. i was so excited that i ordered the dvds of the komarowski violin concertos. i just saw the dvd with the violinist from the boston symphony orchestra. it is very impressive.
i am a beginner. i am looking for some easy classical violin compositions. i am so happy that you published a list of easy compositions, but i am also not sure what the difference between easy and difficult compositions is. i am not sure which one of these four i should play. can you help me?
i agree with you, kevin. the valse-scherzo is a great piece, but it is not nearly as “difficult” as the mozart. the paganini “capricci” are very technically challenging, but musically they are not as difficult as the mozart or beethoven concertos. the sibelius is also rather easy. i just use it to build technique.
i am new to the violin and i really like your list. it is easier than i thought to accomplish. i have a question and a request. first the question: do you have a list of violin concertos and teacher recommendations? my teacher did not suggest many concertos and he suggested that i practice the paganini’s, bach’s, beethoven’s and chopin’s. i am looking for others. my question is, would you recommend the violin concertos of mozart, mendelssohn and brahms?
i like your list. it would be good if you also put down the date of the performance of the concerto if it was a group recital. the performance of the gyorgy sandor concerto is available on the same site. it would be great if you could put that in your list too.
i play the concerto in the piece entitled ‘flamenco jota’ by felipe pedrajo. i can find the name of the piece on your page but i am not sure if it is on the cd. the performance is also on the cd. the performance is by the sevilla symphony orchestra under the direction of miguel angel paz. the symphony does a good job of playing the concerto. i have a few other pieces on the cd and would love to have the concerto.
thanks for your review. i agree with your comments about the ease of the work. i think that it is in the middle. the first and third pages are not really difficult, but the second page is a bit of a challenge. the performance is from one of the best, bobby thompson, and i remember that it was a very good performance. i did not realize that it was a paganini concerto..i only know it from the name.thanks for your review. i will try to find it in my collection. i have looked at all of the bach concertos and they are all extremely difficult to my humble opinion.
thank you for your review of this piece. i am fortunate to have the cd and it is worth every penny i paid for it. i am working on the varese concerto but it is slow going. i am not sure if you have played it before. i have played the valse all the way through and it is not really that hard. the first page is not bad at all and the second is not bad either. the last page is kind of a struggle. i am glad that you reviewed this piece. thanks for your review. have a great day.
