The present invention relates to lubricating grease compositions and methods.
II. Description of the Prior Art
Greases having a low viscosity are in wide use as lubricants for the mechanical parts of automobiles, various electric appliances and the like. Generally, lubricants used for this purpose are viscous and have a thick oily consistency and generally contain a thickener for giving viscosity. However, such lubricants have a large weight or a limited effective life since heavy consumption or extended use thereof will result in the lowering of the viscosity.
To overcome this problem, there have been proposed lubricants which include a crystalline wax or a lipid in addition to an oil component and these are known to be excellent in viscosity stability and in the property of lubricating performance. Among these lubricants, there are known lubricants containing a crystalline wax or a crystalline lipid. The use of such lubricants enables a reduction in weight and a prolongation of the effective life. However, such lubricants have the following disadvantages.
(1) Many of them are low in flexibility and poor in storage stability, resulting in inconvenience for their use.
(2) Many of them are not satisfactory in the lubrication property of engine parts, in particular in heat-resistant lubrication and with respect to the grease suitability for lip parts, resulting in inconveniences in maintenance.
(3) Many of them are low in storage stability at room temperature, resulting in reduction in the effective life.
(4) Many of them are deficient in stability against oxidative deterioration, thereby lowering their life.
(5) Many of them are low in compatibility with other base grease components, resulting in inconvenience in formulation of a sufficiently satisfactory grease composition.
(6) Many of them are insufficient in compatibility with the base grease composition and with other additives, resulting in poor stability of the additive in the grease.
Furthermore, in order to achieve a further prolonged effective life with a grease, it is now desired to develop a grease which exhibits high heat resistance and a prolonged effective life and which is excellent in compatibility with other grease components and with other additives.{#sp1.26}
