This is because * is the “string multiplication operator”.

This is the only reason you see the repeated string, the “a” is not really contained in the list, it is the value of each element.

And another thing, your code is wrong, you are making a list with a single element, but you don’t know how many of those there are, that is why you are getting the output you are getting. You would need
