AutoCAD Classic

On February 26, 2007, Autodesk announced the discontinuation of AutoCAD Classic, citing the challenges of supporting an old application in a modern market and to focus resources on producing the AutoCAD LT application. In January 2009, Autodesk announced that a new version of AutoCAD Classic would be released as part of the new AutoCAD 2009 platform. The new version was released on October 23, 2009, as AutoCAD Classic 2009. AutoCAD Classic 2009 featured an interface and functionality very similar to that of the 2009 version of AutoCAD LT, the next release in Autodesk’s cadence of releasing new releases for AutoCAD.
AutoCAD LT
AutoCAD LT, released on August 13, 2001, is a free version of AutoCAD and was designed to be more user-friendly than AutoCAD Classic. The first release was based on AutoCAD version 2000, and the most recent release is version 2013. Because AutoCAD LT runs in the Microsoft Windows environment, it uses the Windows XP interface, but it also supports Unicode text and Unicode characters in the drawing file and annotation file (see Annotation). AutoCAD LT replaced AutoCAD Classic, which was discontinued on February 26, 2007.
AutoCAD is the industry standard for general-purpose CAD and is used for complex designs.
The current version is AutoCAD 2015.
