AutoCAD 2018 for Cloud is a premium commercial desktop application, released on December 4, 2017. It is the result of AutoCAD’s acquisition of VectorWorks in April 2017. The Vendor License Agreement (VLA) is a contract between a vendor and a user who will use a Vendor License Agreement. It is used to control and manage the use of the vendor license for a user. VLAs are not included in the cloud-based subscription.

History
Although in use by the firm since its founding in 1982, the history of AutoCAD begins in 1987, when the original contract for AutoCAD was awarded to Computer Associate (later Autodesk), by the Computer Associates Corporation.
Autodesk also develops CAD Software For Microsoft Windows, a low-cost personal drafting program, as well as industry-standard 3D Architectural CAD software.
Computer Associates initially acquired two important competitors in the drafting market, Nelco and SolidWorks, and then combined the two to form Autodesk. The Nelco and SolidWorks CAD packages were both developed by Dassault Systemes.
Dassault Systemes has a history of developing CAD software from its Dassault Systemes 3D Studio suite. Both the Dassault Systems and Nelco/SolidWorks products were based on Microsoft Windows, but both products were developed using a variety of different technologies.
Computer Associates was acquired by Autodesk in 1997.
Autodesk acquired ZEBEDA in 2005. This transaction has no impact on Autodesk’s relationship with Dassault.
On October 10, 2007, Autodesk was purchased by private equity firm The Carlyle Group and renamed as Autodesk. The new company is a merger of Autodesk and ZEBEDA.
On September 25, 2009, Autodesk announced a buyout of Dassault Systems, the company that had previously acquired Nelco and SolidWorks, and became Dassault Systèmes.
