AutoCAD History
Autodesk, Inc. was founded in 1968 by John Walker and Douglas Stowe, who initially met while studying at Cornell University. In 1975, Autodesk was incorporated as a public company in the United States, and its first office was located in Seattle. Walker became the company’s first president, and Stowe became the company’s first president and CEO.
Autodesk’s AutoCAD product was developed in the 1980s by John Walker and his team. While working at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory, John Walker and his team developed a computer-aided drafting program. In 1981, he hired fellow graduate student Douglas Stowe to work at the laboratory. A three-dimensional (3-D) computer-aided design (CAD) system was introduced in 1982, creating a new market for these newly created programs. At first, they were only capable of drawing 2-D drawings. AutoCAD was the first CAD program to generate 3-D shapes, allowing the creation of three-dimensional objects, not just 2-D drawings.
Because the company’s CAD programs were extremely expensive, the staff at the company believed that AutoCAD would have limited appeal. In 1984, the management team decided to market the program as a multitool. The AutoCAD logo was created by Chip Kidd (former Senior Staff Designer) in 1983, and the first version of the logo was designed by Tim Schoen in October 1984. The first version of the AutoCAD logo was a simple arrow with the company’s name and model number at the end.
In 1983, James G. Blum designed the current logo, which was first used in January 1985. Because the company’s trademark for its logo, which had been registered as “Adios” in 1983, was too close to a federally registered trademark for Spanish, the company chose to use the AutoCAD logo as its trademark. When the company adopted the AutoCAD logo, it became the only software company with its own logo.

Multiuser workspace
AutoCAD contains a function called multiuser. It is able to automatically share the clipboard, add support for tabs and workgroups, and access multiple users’ drawings at the same time.

Autodesk maintains the following 3D products:
3ds Max – A 3D modeling, rendering, animation, and rendering-related application used by artists, animators, and designers. It supports many 3D rendering engines. 3ds Max is a commercial product and the 3D content can be exported and imported into AutoCAD.

Autodesk Exchange Apps, previously available as a standalone application called the Autodesk Exchange, allows applications to be loaded and run within Autodesk products.

PTC Creo Extensions, a solution for creating content and documents using PTC Creo software, and importing that content into AutoCAD.
Availability
For decades, users could purchase AutoCAD from Dell, HP, IBM, and other vendors. In 2007, Autodesk offered a new licensing model, in which the software could be purchased through computer manufacturers, in turn providing a much more predictable and reliable revenue stream.
Home and student
In 2003, Autodesk released a version for students and qualified independent engineers. In the US, the student version is priced at $25/month, with the US education discount amounting to $65/month. In 2010, Autodesk gave a similar deal to Home users for $119/year.
Office
On March 22, 2010, Autodesk acquired Simplify3D, a small company developing the “next generation” of 3D modeling software. The new offering was released as 3ds Max 2011.
The Autodesk 2011 platform includes two new 3D applications: Autodesk 3D Fusion and Autodesk Entertainment.
Personal
Autodesk plans to release an Autodesk Personal subscription on October 23, 2019.

I remember seeing the movie when it first came out, and loving it. I’m still amazed by the quality of it. The credits have it as being co-written by Michael Cimino, the guy that would go on to direct The Deer Hunter and Heaven’s Gate, but Bogdanovich, who would go on to make a couple of great movies in the 80s, was the co-writer.

Oh yes, it is a brilliant film. Oddly enough, I remember seeing it when it first came out, on the big screen. I remember the film being made with a lot of reverence and respect, which is in stark contrast
