WYOMISSING, Pa. (WHTM) – A Lackawanna County man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for his role in the 2014 murder of a Wyomissing woman.
Atty. Gen. Josh Shapiro said that in April, the office issued a news release regarding an arrest for the murder of a woman in the 13th Ward of Wynnewood, which led to an investigation by Lackawanna County District Attorney Jon Anderson and other law enforcement.
“The defendant was eventually charged with that murder and pleaded guilty to the charge last week,” Shapiro said in a written statement. “We’re very pleased with the result. It’s a testament to the tireless efforts by our investigative partners and also the support of the victim’s family.”
In 2014, the Wyomissing police department and the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office jointly investigated the murder of a woman on Schoen-Ritenour Road in the 13th Ward.
The press release stated that three men were charged in the murder of Linda Fessler, a woman who was discovered dead in the 13th Ward. The men, including the defendant, were originally charged with her murder.
All three men were eventually arrested, charged and are facing charges. Three others were also charged in Fessler’s murder and one of the men has also pleaded guilty.
The second suspect was seen by a witness running from the scene and, although the witness did not identify the suspect by name, police were able to locate him, the press release stated.
Based on information obtained from that witness, the third suspect was located and arrested, according to the press release.
