Alice did not offer any guidelines or parameters for when a patent claim is drawn to an abstract idea. However, on one end of the spectrum, the courts may follow an approach that employs a task-specific test. The story of Alice is pretty full of tropes you’d see in any of the Nier-related stories. Alice’s relative lack of powers make the whole thing more horrifying and intense when you realize that most of the time, that’s all we’ve got on our side. But with Nier’s formula, the main character is a pessimist, and I appreciate that. It’s easy to look at this story and say ‘what could go wrong?’ and sometimes you’re right. But some of what happens in this movie, it’s just plain, brutally, unforgivable. Alice has to be one of the most unlikable heroines in the recent gaming history. Then again, this is a gaming-centric blog.
